Savor the Day

Savor the day
Hayley Barnett runs to “Savor the Day” in honor of a friend who was a loving mother and still lives on in the hearts of those who were impacted by her courageous spirit.

Last year, I was able to be the coordinator for a team of around 20 people who were walking/running in support of one of my childhood friends, Sara Pigg Walker. Sara passed away after her valiant fight against colon cancer, which she so openly shared with thousands of readers on her blog “Savoring the Day.”

Sara grew up here in the Montgomery area and went to Vaughn Park Church of Christ for many years. She was extremely involved in sports with Alabama Christian Academy and later became a stellar physical therapist in the middle Tennessee area. Most importantly though, Sara was a wonderful wife and mother. Sara’s two boys, Scott and Camden, continue to hear about their mother from the thousands of us that she taught to “savor” the time we have with those we love. Sara taught us all to really live in the moment.

It is hard to describe the numerous ways that Sara touched my life. She lived in a way that I aspire to—she was a woman with a true heart for God. Sara was a woman who gave everything she had to spread His love with every breath she took.

“Savor the day” by telling the special woman in your life you love her by running in her honor!

Register today for Agape’s 4th Annual Run for a Mom 5k and Fun Run, Saturday, May 10. This day is not only the day before Mother’s Day, it is also what many celebrate as Birth Mother’s Day. What a way to honor these precious women!
